Head of School 

Reports to: Board of Directors

The Opportunity:

KICS vision is to impact the world for Christ by preparing servant leaders who choose character before career, wisdom beyond scholarship, service above self, and a lifestyle of participation over apathy.

Located in Rwanda, a country that has set clear and challenging goals for its future development and growing in its influence across the region, KICS is positioned to play an increasingly important role in supporting these aspirations through nurturing the servant leaders required to make this a reality.

Building upon the solid foundation and good work underway at KICS, the new Head of School will have the opportunity to provide strong visionary, spiritual, and strategic leadership, by articulating the school’s guiding principles (the KICS way), promoting its vision and value proposition, and by inspiring, encouraging, and caring for the students, faculty, staff, families, and friends that encompass the entire KICS community.

The Head of School is responsible for overseeing the operations of the school and providing spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership to the school. It is the job of the Head of School to inspire, lead, and direct all phases of the school’s operations, programs, budget, personnel, and environment in accordance with the direction and policies established by the KICS Board.

In addition, the Head of School is entrusted with maintaining and encouraging the school’s Christian ethos through spiritual leadership of the school.

The Head of School is appropriately remunerated including additional benefits (for example related to travel and housing).

The Head of School will continue the required momentum to achieve the full possibilities of the new “Vision for the Future” Campus and strengthen the school community’s appreciation and understanding of the KICS Way. This leader will nurture and perpetuate KICS’ intentional culture, steward the school and its resources with integrity, consider the priorities of the school when faced with difficult decisions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Mimum Masters in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Christian Education or equivalent At least 3-5 years prior relevant educational leadership experience.
  • Practicing, born-again Christian who is an active member of a local church Commit fully to the KICS Statement of Faith.
  • ACSI Administrator certification or ability to attain within first year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • School administrator licensure from  governmental agency operatiinng within applicant’s home country At least 3-5 years primary or secondary teaching experience.
  • Relevant Doctorate level qualification.
  • Experience living and/or serving in a multicultural educational setting or non home country.

  • There are four stages to the selection process. At every stage successful candidates will be notified of their progression to the next stage.

Stage 2- Successful candidates will be contacted to complete the following:

  1. Further detailed on-line essay questions
  2. A 60-90 second video of “why KICS, why now?”

Stage 3- Successful candidates will be invited to interview

Stage 4 - Successful candidates will be invited to an in-person site-visit at KICS in Rwanda.

Secondary Social/Emotional Counselor
Reports to: Director of Academics
Serves on: Student Services Team

Required Qualifications:

● Passion for serving God in the context of education and counseling
● Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Master’s Degree in School Counseling or related field
● Experience working with students aged 11-18
● Willingness to become ACSI certified

Preferred Qualifications:

● Two or more years in a secondary counseling role
● Two or more years of successful counseling experience
● Prior experience with teaching
● Prior experience in an international school

Role Specific Responsibilities:

Social and Emotional Counseling

● Support the vision, mission, and values of KICS
● Develops and implements social emotional education for all secondary
● One-on-one counseling for academics or social emotional student needs

● Develops relationships with outside counseling offices and refers students when needed
● Works to advocate for students’ mental health
● Participates in the student of concern meetings to develop interventions for struggling
learners
● Lead weekly small groups for students based on their needs (leadership, anxiety, stress
management, looming transition..)
● Conducts research to stay up to date on trends in counseling

Teaching and Advisory

● Teaches grade 8 seminar (preparing for transition courses)
● Leads a Mission and Advisory Group - a small group of students that connect regularly
throughout the week and year
● Establishes, prepares, and implements secondary-wide advisory curriculum (weekly touch
point with small groups based on student needs)


Additional Responsibilities

● Collects data for alumni and supports in creating the annual school profile
● Other duties as assigned

Learning Support Coordinator/ Special Ed Teacher
Reports to: Director of Academics

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for serving God in the context of education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Special Education
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience in Special Education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of successful teaching experience
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Prior experience in an international school
  • Understanding of Common Core Standards
  • Experience with English Language Learners
  • Diagnostician credentials or other testing credentials

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the learning support department and staff 
  • Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students 
  • Develop Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) for each student with needs 
  • Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one 
  • Implement ILPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress 
  • Update ILPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrators
  • Lead, supervise, evaluate and mentor the learning support team in their given roles (para professionals, SPED teachers) 
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation Lead the Response to Intervention Team (RTI) and student of concern process Collaborate on training for teachers in professional development settings Coordinate with subcontractors for outside testing purposes 
  • Assess students with special needs during the admission process and provide feedback to the  admission committee. 

Primary Teacher
Reports to: Primary Principal

Serves on: Primary Team 

Required Qualifications:

  • Personal and committed relationship with Jesus Christ. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education or completion of teacher training program.
  • Valid Teacher Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s). 
  • Must be able to meet necessary requirements for ACSI certification. 
  • Passion for serving God in the context of education. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of successful teaching experience. 
  • Prior experience in an international school or diverse community. 
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field. 
  • Working knowledge of Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. Experience with English Language Learners and struggling learners. 
  • Experience with reading and writing workshop.

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with teachers and administration around student progress.  
  • Focuses on language arts strategies for developing readers. 
  • Utilizes methods of progress monitoring and running records (e.g NWEA MAP, Fountas & Pinnell) to track student progress. 
  • Manage classroom and student behavior using Love and Logic, PBIS, and Restorative Practices and Justice. 
  • Participate or lead one extracurricular activity per year. 
  • Participate or initiate committees or school events. 
  • Set professional goals and focus on professional development. 
  • Actively participates in the weekly collaboration calendar meetings, curriculum work, and professional development. 
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.
