Meet Ferdinand Nambajimana, the man behind the warm smile. Ferdinand is a husband and father to five children, his youngest being 3 years old and eldest 19. His first born and only daughter, though still in school, is very ambitious and dreams of becoming a nurse or doctor in the future.
Ferdinand has been working at KICS fulltime since 2009 as a security guard. However this September, he was humbled to receive a promotion to KICS Security Officer. “When people trust you can do something, they help you to believe in yourself. I’m glad they saw the ability in me to do it,” he remarked. “Security is at the heart of everything and it is our job to implement it the best way we can here at KICS.” said Ferdinand, who aspires to lead his team to demonstrate high quality, professional security work.
“In personal relations, we were taught to have a good relationship with the people we work with,” said Ferdinand. This attribute reflects outwardly as on occasion people have approached Ferdinand to ask where he was trained, in the hopes that they too can get guards like him for their organizations.
When asked what he likes most about working at KICS, Ferdinand laughed softly and remarked that though many things come to mind, he is especially grateful for the opportunity to serve together with his wife, Consolée. “KICS has helped us to develop ourselves and give our children an education.”
In addition to his Mother tongue, Kinyarwanda, Ferdinand speaks French and English. He is now on a quest to speak Spanish and explains, “I love reading Spanish and the Word of God. My hope is that I will use the knowledge God has given me in languages to work towards the kingdom of heaven.” Ferdinand is committed to learning Spanish with the help of a Spanish dictionary and by listening to Spanish sermons online. “As the pastor preaches, I push myself to translate and understand his sermon.” In addition to learning Spanish, Ferdinand’s hope for the near future is to take computer lessons and learn how to drive.
After becoming a Christian in 1995, Ferdinand’s understanding of God was transformed when he realized that there was a bigger purpose to his existence. “We are all here on God’s mission and not just our own will; I realized God had a plan and work for me.”
In the seven years Ferdinand has served at KICS, he has seen the school transform in many remarkable ways. “KICS is growing with more students, construction, opportunities and benefits,” he explained. As the school expands, Ferdinand remains passionate about his role and strives to achieve his responsibilities by contributing towards security at KICS.
